Hygie31 announces a strategic acquisition in the medical equipment sector through Distrimed
Hygie31, a European player renowned for its expertise in advising and supporting healthcare networks, has taken a decisive step forward by taking over Distrimed, one of France's leading online medical equipment and medical device suppliers for healthcare professionals and private individuals alike.
This transaction, driven by Hygie31's vision of promoting healthcare for everyone, bolsters its already-thriving "echosystem". End 2023, the Group boasted 1,060 member pharmacies in France and in Spain, 48 eyewear and optical product stores, 38 medical equipment stores, 2 e-over-the-counter pharmacy, healthcare & beauty product sites, and generated forecast turnover of 2.4 billion euro.
By taking over Distrimed, Hygie31 boosts its position as a leading Healthcare player by expanding its business portfolio. This specialized company, founded by Philippe and Jacques Meyrueis in 1989, is now headed by Marlyse Nguon, the Group's Managing Director since 2022. It generates turnover of 13 million euro, 8,000 customers a month and owns a 2000 m² warehouse.
Beyond its expertise in e-pharmacy and e-over-the-counter pharmacy, healthcare & beauty products, Hygie31 is strengthening its position in the healthcare sector by developing its know-how in medical equipment e-commerce. This acquisition adds to the Group's digital offer with 20 new product families (over 6,000 references) for healthcare professionals, from doctors and nurses, to end customers alike.
It also establishes Hygie31 as a leading "omnichannel" player in the medical equipment sector in France. This strategy was initiated in 2017 with the successful launch of the Medical Lafayette chain, which totalled some 15 new openings of points of sale in 2023. The alliance with MVD Médical (Mieux Vivre à Domicile (Living Better at Home) in April 2023 consolidated this position, namely in the Hauts-de-France region.
Distrimed's integration into the Group will be illustrated through the development of a special offer tailored to the Group's pharmacies and to its medical equipment stores.
Hervé Jouves, Hygie31 CEO, emphasizes "the significance of this acquisition, given the current demographic context, marked by an increase in the number of dependent people in France. This transaction addresses a growing need for medical equipment to promote home care services and provides a proactive solution for public health challenges."
"Distrimed's integration expands Hygie31's business portfolio of home care services, with a digital offer that complements that of physical distribution networks. This initiative conforms Hygie31's desire to bring new companies working in the silver economy into the fold"
Philippe Meyrueis, Distrimed CEO, is delighted about this alliance.
"Joining Hygie31 Group opens up new opportunities for development, in terms of supplier bargaining and business strategy. This initiative is designed to support DISTRIMED's continued growth."
